Originally intended as stories to be shared with his grandchildren, these books have met with greater audience interest than the author had imagined.
Currently Mr. Zinck is working on book number five!
Raymond George Zinck was born in Rose Bay, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. He graduated from Rogers High School in Newport, Rhode Island in 1951, and joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in December of the same year.
From 1953 through 1957 he was posted to Hopedale, Labrador.
Labrador Adventures comprises a series of short stories telling of a young mountie's experience while stationed in Hopedale, Labrador. The author, an avid outdoorsman, fully enjoyed his Labrador posting.
Service in The Force follows Mr. Zinck's 37 years of service in the RCMP, 26 of which were spent in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The book covers some of the highlights of his career, including investigations into the murders of two fellow members, and his time as Officer in Charge of VIP Security.
Paddling Unknown Waters offers further tales of adventure in the wilderness of Newfoundland, including a 19-day canoe trip which saw the men lose their provisions, due to a canoe upset, just part way through the expedition.
Newfoundland and Labrador Tragedies (and near tragedies) documents five separate incidents of which the author became aware while stationed in Newfoundland. Rugged, isolated terrain contributed to
the stories' (and their heroes') relative obscurity, which the author brings to light.
